Love this time of year when the humidity drops a bit and the sun shines warmly and we can turn off the air conditioning and open windows! Definitely enjoy the fresh breeze blowing around me! It is a good season for long walks and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors. I have been lucky to do much of that recently.
The other day I was immersed in a good book by an open window. The sound of the squealing breaks of a huge yellow school bus stunned me, instantly carrying me back decades when my own daughters and neighbors traveled school buses. Being transported back in time jolted me. Did I need to go to the door and welcome little girls home from school? But when I came back to reality — daughters off to work and tending young families of their own — I realized that the big yellow bus had not been down our quiet street in quite some time. No young children anymore…
But wait, there actually is a little girl across the street living with her dad and grandmother… I thought she was too young, still in preschool? We had only chatted at the mailbox days ago. I didn’t realize that she might be off to kindergarten!
The bus stopped in front of my house for a few minutes, then pulled away. And there was my neighbor on the curb greeting her granddaughter coming back from a busy day at kindergarten! Time does fly by quickly! She was just a little toddler…
Can’t wait to catch my little neighbor and ask her how “big” school goes… In the meantime, I think I need to go spend some time with my own granddaughters…
