After a late afternoon chat on the curb with some neighbors — something that happens from time to time as folks gather their mail, get some fresh air, and finish up their list of errands – we note two things that remind us that winter won’t last forever. The days ARE getting longer! And, there are the beginnings of spring flowers poking through the moist soil! Yes, there are more winter days ahead, but signs of spring are creeping into our lives once again. Even the birds are chirping a bit more, starting to look for new locations in which to build a nest for their young. I bought a little bird house covered with assorted seeds just this morning…
I am so excited that the days are getting longer!
One thing I have learned about myself this season is that it helps me devote the winter months to getting repair tasks done around the house. This year it was exterior siding and a bit of painting with lots of clean-up. (Love how the windows sparkle!) The activity keeps me motivated and time passes more quickly. And at the end of each day I am excited that more is accomplished than the day before. Note to self: schedule improvement projects in January if I don’t have the luxury of a month-long escape to the tropics!

In addition to my recent revelation, I find a few good easy-read novels comforting, and sometimes working on craft projects, like crocheting afghans. The past few winters I made quite a few. Seems this year I didn’t have the desire, more wanting to be active and see things changing in my environment. And, I am definitely pleased with the end result!
Happy January!!
