Recently I had the unique experience of spending time with a dear colleague who is very interested in working with clients who have ADHD and related disorders. She is very knowledgeable in this area, and most passionate about something called The Irlen Method. To educate me more on this intriguing method of assessment and intervention, she graciously offered to “test” me so that I could learn more and understand the model. It was fascinating!
Since I am new to the Irlen Method I find it best to share with you resources that my colleague told me about. First off, is the website http://irlen.com/index.phpm which describes the method, how it was developed, and who might be helped by the intervention and treatment. The belief is that The Irlen Method is “a piece of the puzzle for reading problems, learning difficulties, ADHD, dyslexia, headaches, and other physical symtoms.” Helen Irlen, who developed the model over 25 years ago, has written a book which is referenced on the website.
In addition, another recommended book on the topic is The Light Barrier by Rhonda Stone.
