Bubba and the Boys

April 26, 2016 by Debi

It has been awhile since I have written a blog post about Bubba…  She had a big birthday celebration in mid-March. Wish I could have been there. So overdue for a nice visit with her. I feel guilty… Presently plotting and planning with my sister to make that visit a reality. Miss my mom and my siblings and their families and friends. Spring always seems to draw me back to my childhood roots. I long to be with them.

The past two years have been interesting ones for my aging mother. Seems she is quite the lovely lady who has all the men in her senior complex in hot pursuit! Too funny to hear the details of men knocking on her apartment, uninvited! Leaving her candy. Wanting to sit at her dinner table. Seeking her out for conversation and board games. She is rarely in her apartment, making it difficult for me to chat with her. And when I am lucky enough to catch her I have to ask if it is a good time to talk as she often has visitors, and at the strangest hours…

But the funniest part of this interesting stage of Bubba’s life is that her young granddaughters are quite jealous of their grandmother’s popularity with men! These attractive young ladies report struggling to find nice male companions, yet their Bubba seems to have it all down to a science! What is her magic, they discuss among themselves? I think it is her unwavering belief that life is joyous and something to celebrate and enjoy. Mom has such an amazing zest for living. She is not only realistic, but incredibly optimistic. Her calm and joyful heart and quiet confidence are qualities that draw people in. Everyone feels a sense of peace and hope in her presence. She is smart, alert, witty, and playful. As a kid I thought mom was magical. As an older woman myself, I know that she is magical. How lucky for Bubba’s granddaughters and great-granddaughters to have such a powerful role model to follow! If we could all be so lucky.  So, in our family, there is Bubba, and each and every day we count our blessing to claim her ours…
