Lately I have been spending a great deal of time with my two young granddaughters. Lucky me…
Today I was cleaning out some bookshelves and found a book of poems that I had given to my youngest daughter on her 9 1/2 birthday. (At our house we celebrated half birthdays for our children, who had the misfortune of being born in December. Much competition with the holiday season, sadly. So the half-birthday marker was extra special.)
One poem speaks to this past week with my granddaughters. The oldest is very excited by the delights of nature… If we could all just take time to see life through her young and curious eyes… I think we would be less stressed and unhappy.
Looking Around
Bees own the clover,
birds own the sky,
rabbits,
the meadow
with low grass and high.
Frogs
own the marshes,
ants own the ground…
I hope they don’t mind my looking around.
